The Cardano Foundation has announced the establishment of PRAGMA, a non-profit association dedicated to supporting open-source blockchain software initiatives. Joining forces with Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe, PRAGMA aims to create a robust ecosystem for Cardano and other blockchain networks. The association’s statutes have been signed, officially launching PRAGMA and its primary objective of fostering collaboration among developers and expanding open-source technology.
PRAGMA will take a phased approach to its projects, beginning with the support of ongoing open-source initiatives on the Cardano platform and the promotion of related tools and technologies. The first project, Amaru, focuses on developing a Rust-based Cardano full node that can seamlessly interact with existing Haskell nodes. This project aligns with Cardano’s commitment to interoperability, as demonstrated by the upcoming introduction of Cardano’s W3C-compatible Identity Wallet in December 2023.
Another key project under PRAGMA is Aiken, a platform designed to streamline and enhance Cardano smart contract development. In the second phase, scheduled for 2025, PRAGMA plans to expand its membership to include more Cardano network developers. Creating an inclusive and collaborative space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to work together on software development is crucial, as it fosters cooperation and encourages creativity.
