Spacecoin to Introduce CTC-0 Satellite, Paving the Way for the Decentralized Internet Age

Date:

Spacecoin is pleased to announce that it will launch its first satellite, CTC-0, on December 21, 2024. This launch signifies the beginning of Spacecoin’s ambitious plan to establish the world’s first decentralized space-based internet service provider (ISP) that can deliver on the original promise of the internet – unrestricted and free access for everyone.

Currently, approximately 37% of the global population lacks internet access. Our mission is to Connect the Unconnected by providing direct-to-mobile internet connection to areas worldwide, including developing countries, that currently lack reliable internet access. Through universal internet access implementation, we aim to bridge this digital divide. CTC-0 will be launched as part of the Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission from the Vanderberg Space Force Base aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

Tae Oh, Founder of Spacecoin, stated:

How Spacecoin is Different

1. Direct-to-Cell Coverage: Our initiative will utilize 5G NTN technology to establish direct connections with devices, eliminating the need for expensive ground infrastructure such as cellular towers and fiber-optic connections.

2. Decentralized Network Control: Our Spacechain protocol, powered by blockchain technology, ensures that the network is not controlled by a single entity. This guarantees customers complete control over their internet connection, preventing government or telecom companies from restricting or shutting it down.

3. Affordability: By leveraging blockchain technology and eliminating the need for terrestrial infrastructure, Spacecoin will significantly reduce operating expenses. In developing nations, we estimate monthly costs of only $1-2 USD per user.

4. Industry Compliance: Spacecoin’s network will fully comply with the 3GPP industry standards, ensuring compatibility with the latest 5G NTN-enabled mobile devices, including those manufactured by Apple and Samsung.

5. Open-Source Architecture: Spacecoin intends to make its entire technological stack, including hardware, open source. This approach promotes collaboration and innovation within the industry.

Stuart Gardner, CEO of Spacecoin, stated:

Spacecoin is the world’s first initiative to combine blockchain technology with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communication satellites, creating a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN). Our goal is to provide high-speed, decentralized internet connectivity to underserved and rural areas worldwide through a satellite-based network. Spacecoin will oversee satellite operations for on-chain resource allocation, payments, and governance, utilizing Creditcoin’s Layer 1 infrastructure.
