Binance Executives Case Dismissed by Nigerian Court

Date:

Nadeem Anjarwalla, the regional manager for Binance, had his lawsuit dismissed by the Nigerian High Court. Anjarwalla had filed a lawsuit claiming that the Nigerian government’s seizure of his passport and detention violated his basic rights. However, due to a lack of diligent prosecution, the lawsuit was dismissed on June 19 when neither Anjarwalla nor the respondents’ attorneys appeared for the hearing.

The lawsuit had been filed on March 28, with Anjarwalla demanding that the agencies’ conduct be deemed unlawful. Binance’s lawyer, Tonye Krukrubo, requested to be removed from the case at the same time it was filed, as Anjarwalla had already fled to Kenya. This led to the court postponing the hearings until June 19 in order for Anjarwalla to find new attorneys.

Anjarwalla’s lawsuit alleged that government authorities violated specific sections of the Nigerian Constitution during his and Tigran Gambaryan’s detention. Gambaryan, who had traveled from the US to assist Binance, is facing allegations of tax evasion and money laundering. This has caused a rift between the US and Nigeria, as Gambaryan has independently sued the NSA and EFCC for the same reasons. A hearing for Gambaryan’s complaint is scheduled for July 9.

In other news, Polygon (MATIC) price is expected to recover with support from investors.
